The Roman Baths have been on my list of places to shoot for a long time now and last November the opportunity came when Sony announced their “Sony Experience” days, giving professional photographers the chance to try out a range of their Alpha Series cameras and lenses. Sony ambassadors Kate Kirkman & Brent Kirkman from luxury brand Photography, Film & Air byLumiere (and also my amazing mentors you may have heard me mention before from Training byLumiere) guided us through the camera settings and then we shot a styled shoot within the Roman Baths.
This was a dream for me!

The Roman Baths is a stunning setting for a wedding ceremony, and it is at it’s most beautiful as the sun is going down. But with this comes some tricky light conditions and I wanted the challenge of shooting at this time of day!
Profoto provided the lighting for the shoot, and without them I wouldn’t have been able to get the results I was able to achieve. The models needed to be lit, but naturally. I love how the Profoto B10 has the choice of colour temperature and the strength of the light can be adjusted so it looks so natural…
Our models for the shoot were Sophie & Dan, they were just wonderful to photograph and did so well considering it was a cold November evening!

I shoot fully on a Sony system using the Sony a7iii and absolutely love the images I get with it… Of course it is the photographers eye that has the vision for an image, but the camera and lenses, and very importantly the lighting in this instance, are the tools in which to put that vision into reality.

This was so different to a “natural light” shoot, where although I need to still see and know where to place clients to get the best from the surrounding light, here the light had to be “created”. This is not as easy as simply putting a flash on the camera, the light needs to come from the right place and light the scene and the models perfectly.

I hope you like my images from The Roman Baths, and if you are thinking of somewhere unique and magical to get married then I recommend The Roman Baths highly! And of course I would love to photograph your day for you so be sure to get in touch! You can see more of my weddings over on my website.
