When Fiona asked me to photograph her maternity shoot for her I was thrilled! Being a close friend I was so happy for her and her partner Steve when they announced their pregnancy.
Straight away we said we must do a maternity shoot for her and began planning the best date. Fiona lives in Cornwall and I was more than happy to travel to her, having family there myself I always love to visit and was able to time it with half term so the kids could come for a holiday too, perfect!

Fiona was 31 weeks pregnant at the time of our maternity shoot, the bump is just big enough at this stage, although it could be done anywhere up until around 37 weeks, depending on comfort of course. Fiona had sent me regular pics of her bump so I knew she would be fine for the date we’d decided on!

I wanted to take images in a few different locations, to give a variety of images.
I asked Fiona how she would feel about some indoor shots with a slightly intimate feel, she loved the sound of it!
So I began by taking photographs of Fiona in her own home using window light to create a natural feel. Put into black & white these images feel ‘moody’ which I love!

Our second location was in the Cornish countryside and we found a lovely field where the early morning light shone perfectly on Fiona, I think early morning light might actually be my favourite, it is soft and so pretty!
Fiona chose a black stretch dress which showed her bump beautifully, I love these images, I was very excited to see the back of camera when taking these, the light was gorgeous on Fiona!

Our final location had to be the beach… and Steve came along for some couple shots too, I think during a maternity photography shoot it is nice if the partner can be there too. Steve did brilliantly and I enjoyed capturing images of their love and happiness.

We went to Polzeath beach for golden hour and it was just stunning! Fiona wore a beautiful pink chiffon dress and a flower crown which looked incredible as she walked along the shore, at one point a young boy came up to me and asked “is she famous?” !!!
This was such a fun shoot, Fiona was amazing throughout it all. I hope you enjoy looking through this maternity shoot and I can’t wait to bring you images of their beautiful baby in August when I will be doing their newborn shoot for them! I love photographing newborns so I am really looking forward to it!
