Jaye & Lloyd’s engagement shoot took place on a lovely pebbly beach at Llantwit Major in South Wales last January 2017.
I approached them and asked if they wouldn’t mind me taking some photographs for them as a newly engaged couple.
Being a relatively new photographer it is so important for me to practice! And I always like to use real couples. Jaye & Lloyd were trusting and happy for me to do an engagement shoot for them, it gave me the opportunity to work with a real couple, just me and them.
I know it can feel strange having your photographs taken, but I aim to soon put you at ease and relaxed with me. Hopefully so it gets to the point where you don’t notice that I am there so much, you’ll just be chatting and joking between you and I’ll be there occasionally directing and gently posing you but taking your pictures as we go along unobtrusively.
Lloyd proposed to Jaye on their 5th anniversary, their little girls Lucy and Abi wore t-shirts that read “will you marry my daddy?”, so adorable! (they are going to make such cute flower girls on their wedding day!)
For their engagement shoot we waited and waited for an afternoon in January that wasn’t dull, grey, rainy and freezing, no mean feat!
But as soon as the forecast and tide looked good we went over to Llantwit Major. I love this beach for it’s colours, the grey rocks and soft yellow cliff faces give a lovely backdrop for portrait photography.
With the sunset due late afternoon we met at 3pm, allowing for some afternoon light and some golden light as the sun was beginning to go down.
I like engagement shoots to be natural and to capture the happiness and closeness between a couple. Walking on the empty beach in the pretty January light created a relaxed atmosphere which is just what I hope for during a couple’s photography session. I asked them to walk across the beach away from me into the distance, this gave me some lovely wider shots that showed the beach and the sea with them walking together. I always like to get a combination of shots, closer portraits, full length and more environmental images. I aim to show the scenery of the day as well as the couple to give a fuller feel and variation of images.
The light this afternoon was so lovely, true gold! It glistened on the sea and looked so pretty.
I was really pleased with the portraits we were able to get with it. I’m very pleased to say that Jaye & Lloyd loved them too.
A few months after their engagement shoot I was absolutely thrilled when Jaye & Lloyd asked me to be their wedding photographer! This meant so much to me as it showed they really did feel relaxed with me, enough so that they entrusted me with being the photographer on the most important day of their lives!
Jaye & Lloyd’s wedding is taking place at the gorgeous Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel and I am so looking forward being there to photograph their wedding day!
Keep an eye on my blog where I will be bringing you the preview of Jaye & Lloyd’s wedding day soon!
